Peter Veres

Peter Veres is a Canadian author who has written more than 20 books and won several awards for his fiction. He was born in Hungary and moved to Canada in 1957, where he has since lived with his wife and two children. Peter’s writing career began in the early 1970s, when he started publishing short stories in magazines such as Chatelaine and Toronto Life. His first novel, The Half-Life of Happiness, was published in 1982. Since then, he has gone on to write such acclaimed novels as The Last House in the Valley (1984), The Golden years (1986), and The End of the Alphabet (1988). In addition to his fiction, Peter Veres has also written several books on Canadian history and culture, including A History of Canada in Ten Maps (2003) and The Penguin Book of Canadian Stories (2005). He currently lives in Toronto.
